Immutable X was officially founded in 2017 under the company name "Fuel Games." Initially, Fuel Games focused on gaming products, such as creating blockchain-based games like "Gods Unchained." However, after experiencing the high transaction fees and slow processing times associated with NFTs on Ethereum, the founders shifted their attention to solving these problems. This led to the birth of Immutable X as a dedicated platform for scaling NFTs.

Development of Immutable X

To achieve their ambitions, Immutable X partnered with StarkWare, a technology firm that specializes in zero-knowledge rollups (ZK-rollups), which are used to enhance scalability and maintain security. ZK-rollups enable transactions to be bundled together and processed off-chain, thereby reducing the load on the Ethereum network. These transactions are then grouped and periodically added back to the main Ethereum chain without compromising security.

The platform launched publicly with its IMX token, providing utilities such as governance, staking, and user rewards. Immutable X claims to enable zero gas fees for minting and trading NFTs on its platform while maintaining Ethereum’s security. This has been an important feature that has attracted many developers and NFT creators to the ecosystem.
