History of GALA
GALA is the native cryptocurrency of the Gala Games ecosystem, which was founded in 2017 by Eric Schiermeyer, one of the co-founders of Zynga, a leading name in mobile and social gaming. The main mission behind Gala Games was to build an ecosystem that empowers gamers by utilizing blockchain technology, giving them ownership over in-game items, as well as decentralized control over the development and operation of games.
The blockchain-based project officially launched its token, GALA, in 2020 on the Ethereum network, following the trend set by other tokenized ecosystems. Since then, Gala Games has expanded its operations rapidly, evolving from a small, ambitious entity to a more expansive and growing ecosystem that mainly targets the gaming community. GALA serves as a key utility token in this ecosystem, enabling transactions within the platform, including the purchase of in-game items and NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
The structure of the Gala Games ecosystem is decentralized by design, utilizing a mix of Ethereum and a proprietary node system. Players can operate nodes, contributing to the decentralization and security of the Gala Games platform. In return, they are rewarded with GALA tokens, further promoting community engagement and participation. Holders of GALA can also vote on future games and platform upgrades, thus contributing to the governance model.
Over time, Gala Games has expanded beyond its initial set of ideas. It collaborates with multiple development teams worldwide, conducting partnerships with creators to design blockchain-based games. Games are at the core of the platform, and titles like "Town Star" represent Gala’s ambition to use blockchain as a foundation for both casual and competitive gaming environments. In addition, Gala has diversified its blockchain operations by incorporating its own sidechain solution to avoid some of the scalability and cost concerns on the main Ethereum chain.
While gaming remains the main focal point, GALA’s growth also intersects with broader trends in the NFT and virtual asset space, providing a convergence between gaming and digital ownership. The history of GALA and its parent platform, Gala Games, reflects both the challenges and the possibilities that come with merging traditional gaming with decentralized technologies.
