QKC Founding Team
QuarkChain (QKC) was founded in 2017 by Qi Zhou, a former Google engineer and academic with a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Zhou's strong background in computer science, particularly systems and distributed systems, heavily influenced QuarkChain's technical approach to blockchain scalability. Zhou developed QuarkChain with a focus on creating a secure, decentralized, and scalable blockchain solution capable of supporting high throughput, which has been a challenge for many blockchain projects.
The founding team of QuarkChain is composed of experienced professionals, especially in the field of computer science, distributed systems, and blockchain technology. Qi Zhou stands out as the visionary behind the project. Prior to founding QuarkChain, he took part in several high-profile projects at Google and Facebook, concentrating on large-scale distributed systems. This prior experience contributed to the conceptual framework of QuarkChain, specifically the dual-layer architecture it employs, which blends sharding and cross-shard transactions for improved performance.
Another key member early on was Banghui Wang, also a computer science expert with experience in high-performance computing and distributed algorithms. As part of the founding group, Wang contributed to the development of the technical solutions that gave QuarkChain its unique consensus and sharding mechanism. His involvement mainly centered around ensuring that QuarkChain’s infrastructure was scalable while maintaining its decentralization principles.
The founding team was also supported by a range of advisors, primarily from academia and tech. In its early days, QuarkChain worked closely with academic institutions and blockchain experts, leveraging the knowledge of various researchers from established universities and tech organizations. Additionally, QuarkChain employed several engineers with experience in cybersecurity, another focal point in the network's development.
The founding ethos of the team was rooted in addressing the "trilemma" of blockchain scalability, which asserts that a system can only focus on two of three features: decentralization, security, or scalability. By utilizing sharding techniques, QuarkChain aimed to prove that all three were possible. Over time, the team expanded to include more engineers, developers, and marketers, but its technical roadmap continued to reflect the founding team's original priorities.
